Welcome to our new series, Song of the Week! Every Friday we will share a track, old or new, that’s we’re loving that week and we think you ought to hear.
This week’s choice is the energetic and experimental track ‘Cigarette Packet’ by Windmill legends and all round new music icons Sorry. This single was released alongside another track ‘Seperate’ midway through March, their first new tracks to be released since the incredible album 925, one of 2020’s albums of the year. This Tuesday saw the surprise drop of their Twixtustwain EP, a fantastic and brilliant showcase of the group’s musical development in the lockdown period.
Cigarette Packet is among the songs the group have worked on during the isolation of the past year. Describing the tracks Asha Lorenz comments “the sounds are quite metallic / silver / grey and the lyrical ideas are repetitive almost as if they are whispers / mantras/ worries that you’d say to yourself and keep to yourself.” Cigarette Packet in particular has a refreshing, abstract and energetic sound that means you want to listen again and again.
